Men’s Soccer Nets Six Goals to Defeat Adams State, 6-3

Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. – After losing three straight games for the first time since 2003, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team got back in the win column Friday afternoon with a 6-3 win at Adams State University.

"The most important thing from today was to get back to winning and we did that in an impressive manner going forward," said Fort Lewis head men's soccer coach Oige Kennedy.  "Adams is a much improved side this year and you can tell from their results that they are a program in transition and credit has to go to their coaching staff for their hard work. The boys are very excited to be at home again and we want to build upon the positive from today's game and continue to get back to winning ways."

Brook Assefa scored a quick goal just 4:13 into the game.  Assefa picked up the ball outside the box and struck the ball to the top corner with his left foot from about 25 yards out.  Adams State responded with two of the own by Ethan Jackson and Symon Fabbricatorer to take a 2-1 lead.

Luke Lawrence recorded two of his four points of the game when he found the back of the net from Austin Derksen's assist.  Derkesen took the corner kick and made a solid delivery for Lawrence to head in the goal.

Lawrence then assisted his brother, Zac Lawrence, to extend the Skyhawks lead to 3-2 at 36:11.  Artur Piperkov played a ball up to Luke who turned his man and ran into the box.  As the keeper came out he slid the ball across to Zac who tapped it in.

Less than three minutes into the second half, Lawrence posted his second assist of the game and fourth point when he found Alberto Capdepon who notched the game-winning goal at 47:35. Capdepon struck from about 25 yards.

Tamino Kroeger netted a chip shot goal over the top from Piperkov's pass. Jordan Alexander beat his defender on a cross and nailed the goal from 10 yards out.

The Grizzlies Eric Rickard cut the lead for ASU to 6-3 with nine minutes in regulation, but the Skyhawks held on to improve to 5-3-1 overall and 2-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The loss evens the Grizzlies record at 4-4.

All nine of the Grizzlies shots landed on goal, while Fort Lewis put 12 of their 19 shots on target.

Ryan Schaul made six saves in the contest to improve to 4-1-1 on the season.

The Skyhawks will return home Sunday afternoon to Dirks Field.  Fort Lewis will play host to CSU-Pueblo at 3:30 p.m.
