NOTES
FLC will be playing their fifth and sixth straight road match this week, beginning Tuesday night at Adams State University. The Skyhawks will face Westminster College for the second time in program history and first time ever in Salt Lake City on Saturday at 4 p.m.
FLC enters Tuesday's match at Adams State with a 4-14 overall record and a 3-7 RMAC record. The Skyhawks are tied for 11
th place in the league standings with Black Hills State University.
FLC is looking to snap a four game losing streak. The Skyhawks were swept this past weekend at Chadron State College (L, 3-0) and at Regis University (L, 3-0).
The Skyhawks continue to lead the RMAC in service aces. FLC is averaging 1.51 aces per set.
Ally Dell'Amico is eighth in the league in service aces with 0.30 aces per set, and fifth in digs with 4.95 digs per set. Senior setter
Delaney Scanlan is averaging the ninth most assists in the RMAC with 8.54.
Six Fort Lewis College women's volleyball student-athletes were named to the 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Volleyball All-Academic team.
Ally Dell'Amico earned First Team honors for the second straight year, while
Bella Bernazzani,
Hannah Hargrove,
Matisse Monty,
Delaney Scanlan and
Kendra Swackenberg were named to the Honor Roll.
THE SERIES
Fort Lewis College owns the all-time series record against Adams State University, 68-35, but the Grizzlies have won the last two matches. FLC trails ASU when playing the Grizzlies on their home court, 20-21. The Skyhawks last win over ASU was Nov. 8, 2014 at Adams State (W, 3-0).
FLC's first ever meeting against Westminster College was last season. The Skyhawks defeated the Griffins on Oct. 17, 2015 in Whalen Gymnasium, 3-0.
SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES
Adams State University is in a three-way tie for seventh place in the league standings with a 5-5 mark (10-9 overall).
The Grizzlies rank seventh in the RMAC in blocks (1.93 per set), ninth in kills (11.58 per set), 10
th in hitting percentage (.164) and 11
th in assists (10.68 per set).
Leading ASU is Mallory Grimsrud with a .299 hitting percentage, 3.48 kills and 1.13 blocks per set.
SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS
Westminster College enters the week with a 1-9 RMAC record and a 3-16 league record. They posted their first league win of the season this past Saturday against South Dakota School of Mines. The Griffins are 14
th overall in the RMAC.
WC is 13
th in the RMAC in kills (10.71 per set), service aces (1.05 per set), assists (10.11 per set) and blocks (1.58 per set).
The Griffins are led by Amara Spere who has 212 kills on the season and Amber Lamborn's 14 service aces.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Matisse Monty was the third Skyhawk to earn preseason All-Tournament team honors. Monty was named to the MSU All-Tournament team (Sept. 9-10) after recording 2.53 kills per set with a .148 hitting mark, eight aces, 35 digs and four blocks.
Maddie LeBlanc and
Bailey Longacre were named to the Cal State San Marcos Invitational All-Tournament team (Sept. 2-3). The duo led the Skyhawks offensively over the weekend. LeBlanc averaged 2.64 kills per set while hitting .304 at the net. She added five aces, five digs and 10 blocks. Longacre finished with 30 kills (2.14 kills per set), a .234 hitting mark, 11 digs and seven blocks.
PRESEAON POLL
The 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll has the Fort Lewis College volleyball program picked to finish 13
th out of 15 teams. The Skyhawks received 45 points in the preseason poll. Colorado School of Mines is the preseason favorite with 192 points and 11 first place votes.
FLC finished 16
th in the league last year with a 2-16 RMAC record (5-21 overall). The Skyhawks return five starters (
Matisse Monty,
Gabriella Hickman,
Maddie LeBlanc,
Hannah Hargrove and
Delaney Scanlan), including libero
Ally Dell'Amico, and 11 letterwinner's from last year's team. Dell'Amico and
Monty earned RMAC Honorable Mention honors last year.
SEASONED COACH
Kelley Rifilato is in her fourth season with the Skyhawks in 2016 after being named the Fort Lewis College head volleyball coach in June 2013. In three years at the helm of the volleyball program, Rifilato owns a 23-57 (.288) overall record, and a 17-38 (.309) conference mark. She has coach five All-RMAC and 13 Academic All-RMAC performers while taking the 2013 team to the RMAC tournament.
LOOKING AHEAD
After playing six straight road matches, FLC will return to Whalen Gymnasium to play five of their final six regular season matches. The Skyhawks will host New Mexico Highlands University on Oct. 28 and Colorado State-Pueblo on Oct. 29.
