FLC enters the weekend with a 4-4-0 overall record and a 3-1-0 RMAC record.  They are tied for third place in the league standings with nine points, just three points off of league-leading Regis University (4-0-0, 12 points).

Fort Lewis College won their first back-to-back road games last week when they defeated Adams State University (W, 4-1) and Colorado State-Pueblo (W, 2-1).  The lone goal scored by the Grizzlies was on a penalty kick.

Dana Kowachek scored the first goals of the game at ASU and at CSUP, recording his first goals scored this season.  Churchill Onumonu netted the third and fourth goals of the game for FLC against the Skyhawks.  He leads the team in goals scored with five.  Raul Pescador netted the game-winning goal at CSU-Pueblo on Sunday.  The goal was Pescador's first of the season.

THIS WEEK
The Skyhawks will return home to play host to Colorado Mesa on Friday at 3 p.m.  FLC will then hit the road and travel to Salt Lake City to take on Westminster College on Sunday at 1 p.m.

THE SERIES
The Skyhawks looks to snap a five game losing streak against Colorado Mesa University Friday afternoon.  FLC leads the all-time series, 10-5-1, and are 4-2-1 against the Mavericks at home. The last time FLC defeated CMU on Dirks Field was Sept. 21, 2011 (W, 3-0).

The Griffins hold a slight edge over the Skyhawks in the all-time series, 3-2-1.  FLC is 2-0-1 in their last three meetings.  The Skyhawks faced WC for the first time as a RMAC opponent last season, earning the 3-0 win at Dirks Field.

SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
The Mavericks have a one-point advantage in the league standings with a 3-0-1 record (10 points).  CMU has only suffered one loss this season and own a 4-1-3 record.  The lone loss was to St. Edward's University.  The Mavericks have won their last three games and are 3-0-1 in their last four games.

CMU is second in the RMAC in shots (122), points (48), goals (17), and third in goals allowed (eight).  The Mavericks are led by Roy Abergil who leads the league in shots (29), points (20) and goals (10).

Friday will be the second meeting between the two teams.  They faced each other in non-conference play on Sept. 4 in Grand Junction, Colo.  CMU won the meeting, 5-1.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS
Westminster College is one of two teams without a conference win in the first two weekends of the league season.  The Griffins are 1-6-0 overall, earning their only win against Hawaii-Hilo (W, 2-1 OT).  WC is currently on a five game losing streak.

Out of 11 teams, the Griffins rank ninth in the league in assists (four) and goals allowed (20), 10th in points (18), goals (seven) and saves (21), and they are last in shot attempts (47).

MEET THE TEAM
The 2016 Skyhawks squad returns eight starters from 2015 (Tamino Kroeger, Laurin Weiland, Nicolas Perez, Sean Cleary, Coleman Kane, Alex Tillberry and Malik Badawi).  The Skyhawks lost starters Yannis Becker, Zac Lawrence and Austin Derksen to graduation.

This year's squad boasts student-athletes from eight different states and seven different countries (England, Ecuador, Germany, Netherlands, Scotland, Somalia, and Spain). Of the 30-player roster, 19 student-athletes hail from the United States and 11 from international countries.

PRESEAON HONORS
The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team was picked fifth out of 11 teams in the 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason poll.  Sophomore defender Sean Cleary and senior midfielder Tamino Kroeger were voted to the preseason team.

The Skyhawks finished the 2015 campaign with a 12-6-2 overall record and a 6-3-1 league record, finishing fifth in the RMAC standings.

Cleary was named the 2016 RMAC Preseason Defender of the Year last week.  He received several honors as a redshirt-freshman, including being named to the Academic All-District first team, Academic All-RMAC first team, All-NSCAA South Central Region third team and All-RMAC first team honors.

An All-NSCAA South Central Region Second Team and All-RMAC First Team honoree in 2015, Kroeger scored a team high 10 goals in his junior campaign.  He started 11 of 15 games he played in and netted three game-winning goals.  Kroeger tallied a season high four points in two games last year.  He finished the season with 21 points (10 goals, one assist).

NEW DIRECTION
Fort Lewis is under the direction of first year head coach David Oberholtzer.  A graduate of Fort Lewis, Oberholtzer is no stranger to Fort Lewis as he played two seasons for the Skyhawks before serving as an assistant coach from 2009-2012.  A member of the 2006 and 2007 teams, Oberholtzer was a part of the Skyhawks NCAA National Runner-up team in 2006.  As an assistant coach for the Skyhawks, Oberholtzer helped coached FLC to two NCAA National Championships in 2009 and 2011.

ON THE AIR
The legendary voice of the Skyhawks, John Mahoney, returns for his 12th season calling Skyhawks soccer games on the air.  Mahoney will be reunited with Phil Duke who is returning after a seven year hiatus.  Mahoney and Duke will call all Skyhawks men's and women's soccer home games.  Fans can watch all home soccer games for free on Stretch Internet and listen to Mahoney and Duke via the free video stream and on the air at KIUP AM 930, 97.3 FM and www.radiodurango.com.

LOOKING AHEAD
FLC will play two games next week at home.  The Skyhawks will host Adams State University in a mid-week game on Oct. 5, and Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday.  Both games will kick off at 3 p.m.
