Women’s Golf Ties for Ninth at RMAC Championships, Schwartz Lands in Top-30

CHANDLER, Ariz. –
Sophie Schwartz paced the Fort Lewis College women's golf team throughout the three rounds at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships before tying for 30th. As a team, the Skyhawks tied for ninth after the third and final round concluded Tuesday at the par 72, 5,969-yard Ocotillo Golf Resort.

FLC compiled rounds of 326-336-325 for a 987 to tie with Chadron State for ninth. CSU-Pueblo won the 13-team Championships with an 895, 18-shots ahead of the field. The ThunderWolves also had the top individual in Orakorm Thirayatorn who fired a 217 to win by three-strokes.

Schwartz opened the Championships with a 78 and then added rounds of 81 and 79 for a 238 to tie for 30th. During the final round she sunk a birdie on hole five and added 12 pars. Isabella Martinez was the next Skyhawk in with a total of 243 after rounds of 80-80-83 to land in 36th. She has nine pars during the final round. Summer Vigil carded a final round 80 after opening rounds of 82 and 88 for a 250 to tie for 42nd. She had 12 pars during the final round. Amanda Westrick finished in 48th with scores of 88-87-83 for a 258. She had 11 pars on Tuesday. Rounding out the five for the Skyhawks was Emilia Manntz who tied for 54th after scores of 86-97-91 for a 274. Manntz had a birdie on hole five.

As a team, Fort Lewis averaged 3.72 on par-three, 4.71 on par-four and 5.55 on par-five. Individually, Schwartz led the team in par-three (3.42), Martinez led the way in par-four (4.47) and Schwartz also led the team in par-five at 5.08. Schwartz had the most pars on the team with 31 and Vigil led the team in birdies with six.

It was the second straight RMAC Championship for Vigil, Martinez, Schwartz and Westrick who all competed last year. Schwartz trimmed nine-strokes off her score from last year, Martinez cut a shot off her score and Westrick was eight-strokes better than last year's championship score.
