Women’s Golf Shatters Previous Program Record at Mustang Intercollegiate

First Round Results

GOODYEAR, Ariz. –
Having come close a couple of times to breaking the previous low mark for a round at 320, the Fort Lewis College women's golf team was able to break through on Friday as they fired a 312 during the first round of the Mustang Intercollegiate that took place at the par 72, 6,005-yard Palm Valley Golf Club course.

"So proud of the way this team played," Head Coach Jim Foltz said. "They played as a team and the results showed. This has been a long time coming for this group."

The 312 has the Skyhawks in 14th, just a couple of shots back of Midwestern State in 13th and five shots back of tying for 10th. CSU-Pueblo leads the 23-team field with a 292, four-shots ahead of West Texas A&M. FLC is ahead of ranked Tarleton State that entered the week in 38th in the Golfstat rankings. The Skyhawks are just two-shots back of No. 35 Midwestern State, three back of No. 48 Cal State East Bay and five back of No. 42 Western Washington.

Academy of Art's Anahi Servin, Oklahoma Christian's Abigail Rigsby and Cal State Monterey Bay's Alexis Marshall are all tied for the individual lead with a two-under 70. FLC's Summer Vigil is right behind with a one-under 71 to sit just a shot back heading into the final round.

Vigil had a round to remember as she posted four birdies on holes one, five, 11 and 14 and added 11 pars to post her 71 and into fourth place. Isabella Martinez was consistent on Friday as she posted a birdie on hole 18 and tallied 12 pars for a 76 to tie for 31st. Emilia Manntz and Sophie Schwartz finished just a stroke apart with Manntz posting an 82 to tie for 87th and Schwartz with an 83 to tie for 93rd. Manntz collected a pair of birdies on holes six and 15 and had six pars. Schwartz had a birdie on hole six and added seven pars. Rounding out the five for the Skyhawks was Kara Tschirhart who finished with a 91 to land in 110th. She sunk a birdie on hole three and had three pars. Judith Camacho competed as an individual for FLC and she posted a first round of 88 to land in 109th.

As a team, FLC averaged 3.60 on par-three, 4.42 on par-four and 5.50 on par-five. They tallied 39 pars and added nine birdies. Individually, Vigil led or tied for the team lead in par-three scoring at 3.00, tied with Martinez for the team lead in par-four at 4.10 and is second in the field in par-five at 4.50. Martinez leads the way in pars with 12 and Vigil leads the Skyhawks in birdies with four.
