DURANGO, Colorado — The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team has announced the signing of Anissa Fernandez, a versatile player and four-year starter from Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Arizona.

Fernandez has seen time as a center back, left back, attacking midfielder and a forward with the Lancers, who were three-time Class 4A state champions during her four years. She capped off her tremendous prep career by helping the Lancers to the 2021 state title while earning First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region and First Team All-State honors as an individual.

Academically, Fernandez has also excelled in the classroom as she was a Honor Roll student all four years at Salpointe Catholic and plans on majoring in Engineering while at FLC.

"This is player who has practiced an amazing amount of patience to find the right fit, and our Engineering department and soccer program seem to be the last piece of the puzzle for her," said FLC head women's soccer coach, Damian Clarke. "She is a player who is also the last piece to our 2021 effort to build a complete left side to our program.  She is a player who has played at the highest club levels and has won a lot of big games in her career; three high school state championships to name a few.  I think Anissa brings us a very cultured left foot, and a speed of thought that will allow her to play in multiple positions.  We are excited to have her in the program."
