Skyhawks golf set for season finale at RMAC Championships

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College men's and women's golf teams are preparing to embark on the toughest challenge yet, taking on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Sunday through Tuesday.

On the men's side, the Skyhawks will compete among a field of nine teams from across the conference. As for the women, the Skyhawks will take on a challenging field of 12 teams from across the conference.

Designed by Mark Rathert and established in 2003, Boulder Creek provides 27 holes of championship golf across three, nine-hole runs: Desert Hawk, Coyote Run, and Eldorado Valley. The men's championship will open the front nine on Coyote Run and finish the back nine on Eldorado Valley. Simultaneously, the women will open their front nine on the Desert Hawk course and finish the back nine on the Coyote Run course. The tournament will kick off at 10:30 a.m. MST with live results available as well on the RMAC Championships page HERE.

The Skyhawks women making the trek to Vegas include Brooke Sturtevant, Emma Tornroos, Kendal Gutierrez, Molly Schwartz, and Emilia Manntz. For the men; Ronald Kildall III, Henry Poston, Nicholas Krantz, Riley Rottschafer, and Carson Kerr.

LAST TIME OUT
Both squads have not seen action since the first weekend of the month when both sides competed at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association Palm Valley Classic back on Apr. 1-4. Sturtevant led the women to tie for 18th-place overall (633, +57) thanks to her tie for 40th as an individual. Sturtevant carded single-round scores of 75 and 78 to finish the tournament nine strokes over par with a 153.

As for the men, the Skyhawks captured a 16th-place finish (929, +65). Kildall III was able to notch a Top-20 finish, tying for 20th with Colorado Mesa's Pablo Diaz del Castillo. The pair each carded final totals of 223 (+7), but Kildall III posted a better single-round score with a 72 through his first 18.

END OF THE LINE
For the Skyhawks, both the men's and women's teams will see their seasons come to a close following the conference tournament. But Fort Lewis still has a chance of a strong performance in the conference tournament which could mean a chance at individual berths into the NCAA Regional.
