Skyhawks capture third seed in RMAC Tournament with shutout over Grizzlies; face third-seeded Roadrunners on Sunday

Citron nets sixth goal of the year

FARMINGTON, N.M. – No. 17-ranked Fort Lewis (11-2-5, 7-2-1 RMAC) rifled off shot after shot across the night against an Adams State defense (2-12-2, 0-9-1 RMAC) that bent, but never broke, until David Citron finally punched in his sixth goal of the season in the 84th minute to break the draw, shutout the Grizzlies, and give FLC the third seed in the 2024 RMAC Tournament.

The Skyhawks cap its 2024 regular season with four consecutive victories, including three consecutive shutouts, while outscoring opponents 10-3 over the same stretch. Fort Lewis ends the conference race with 22 conference points to tie Regis (7-2-9, 6-0-2 RMAC), who takes the second seed with the head-to-head tiebreaker. FLC will play sixth-seeded MSU Denver on Dirks Field this Sunday, Nov. 10, at 5 p.m. following the women's match against Regis at 1 p.m. Corporate sponsors and members of the Skyhawks Club will need to purchase a general admission ticket but may still use their VIP passes for access to hospitality. Tickets can be purchased through the conference HERE. Free admission will be offered to all Fort Lewis College students.

"A little more stressful than we would have liked, but great to end the conference with another win, another shutout, and get three big points," head coach David Oberholtzer said. "It took us a while to get there, but the guys showed a ton of belief, kept fighting, and kept creating chances. We asked Vince to go in and make an impact, and he did that pretty quickly and had a great individual run that led to the goal. Overall, I'm super proud of how resilient the guys were, and excited to host MSU Denver on Sunday."

Fort Lewis stayed hot among the freezing conditions down at Hutchison Stadium at Farmington High School, firing off a season-high 26 total shots while matching Adams State with five shots on goal. The Grizzlies took just six total shots in the match and only one corner to the Skyhawks six.

Lucas Martin earned five saves on the night, his second-most in a match this season, including two diving saves at the edge of the box on a pair of backline miscues. Martin also picked up his eighth clean sheet of the season, his third straight, to match his goalkeeping coach Tom Donley (2002-06) with 11 for the tenth-most in program history.

Vincent Edgell subbed on in the 78th minute, and suddenly, Fort Lewis had its spark on the outside. In the 84th minute, following a barrage of shots from the Skyhawks, Edgell found himself racing down the sideline and into the penalty box, where he leaped through a pair of defenders, and provided the centering pass on Citron's game-winning goal to pick up his first collegiate assist.

Adam State's JP Fernandez picked up four saves on the night. Avery Richards fired four shots, with three placed on goal, while Tim Mietenkorte and Sebastian Flores took one shot each, and both were on goal. Quinn Bosanko was dealt a red card in the 88th minute and will be unavailable for Sunday. FLC led ASU in fouls, 11-to-9.
