Mann posts shutout over ThunderWolves to cap afternoon split

Hailie Mann keeps Fort Lewis in line for the series

PUEBLO, Colo. – Junior Hailie Mann picked up her second-career shutout Thursday afternoon with a complete game effort that led to a 2-0 Skyhawks (8-23, 6-16 RMAC) victory in game two after dropping game one of the day 7-2, forcing a split on day one of the four-game series against CSU Pueblo (12-25, 10-16 RMAC) on the ThunderWolves own Rawlings Sports Complex.

Mann (3-12), while picking up her third win of the season, became the first Skyhawk to earn a shutout win in the circle this season and now owns two of the last five complete-game shutouts by a Fort Lewis pitcher since 2022.

Fort Lewis has now battled The Pack to a day-one split in each of its last four series dating back to 2018.

Kayla Stone was the front runner for the Skyhawks offense once again as the senior second basemen led the squad with a 3-7 afternoon that featured one run scored and two runs batted in thanks to a solo shot that left the ballpark to right-center field.

Game One – CSU Pueblo 7, Fort Lewis 2
The Skyhawks tripped themselves up in game one behind a 94-pitch outing from Amiee Shanks (5-11). Shanks went all 6.0 innings and scattered eight hits and two walks for seven runs, only three of which were earned, largely in part to FLC's season-high four errors in the contest.

On the flip side, CSU Pueblo's McKenna James (6-12) started the game on the rubber and tossed 4.1 innings of five-hit work that saw FLC score one run before Jacelynn Trujillo (3-2) came on in relief for the final 2.2 innings of the game and allowed one earned run on one hit while striking out three.

Briana Jorgensen put the Skyhawks on the board in the top of the second inning with a solo home run, the second of her career and first at the Division II level, while Stone provided a second solo shot for the only other FLC score in the bottom of the fifth. The Pack posted a four-run frame in the bottom of the second but otherwise added just a single run in the first, third, and fourth innings.

Madelyn Huerta and Ashley Tosh each recorded a pair of RBIs in the game on their only hits of the afternoon to drive in three unearned runs. Caitlyn Cole and Darleen Falcon combined for five of the ThunderWolves' seven runs.

Game Two – Fort Lewis 2, CSU Pueblo 0
Mann was outstanding in the circle, but not without the help of the Fort Lewis defense behind her. While the junior from Mountain View High School in Tucson, Ariz., worked to a victory in 97 total pitches, Mann struck out just four and walked another while leaving 13 flyouts and four ground outs to be picked up by the defense behind her which closed out game two without an error.

Marissa Robertson (3-8) pitched a complete game for The Pack, scattering four hits, three walks, and two wild pitches for two runs, only one of which was earned, while also picking up four strikeouts.

The stalemate finally broke in the top of the third inning after Alex Tenorio and Hannah Rutherford, who singled and drew a walk, respectively, found themselves on second and third with one out after a pair of wild pitches. Stone, with a full count, singled off the pitcher's glove moments later to drive in Tenorio which then led to an errant throw by Robertson that flew wide of first base allowing Rutherford to swipe home for an insurance run.

-The Skyhawks now trail the ThunderWolves 75-30 in the all-time series and 39-14 on The Pack's home field.
