Skyhawks drop road series to ThunderWolves

PUEBLO, Colo. – Fort Lewis softball closed out its second road trip in as many weeks by dropping a pair of games 3-0 and 4-2 to CSU Pueblo at the Rawlings Softball Complex on Friday afternoon to relinquish the four-game RMAC series to the ThunderWolves three games to one.

The Skyhawks fall to 8-25 overall with a 6-18 record in conference play while the ThunderWolves move up to 14-25 overall and 12-16 in league games. In addition, Fort Lewis has dropped its first series to CSUP since 2017.

Offensively, FLC stranded 16 runners across the two games compared to CSUP who left just six on base: three in each contest. Junior shortstop Alex Tenorio picked up three hits on the afternoon including a 2-4 performance in game two which featured a two-run home run to left field: her first of the season. Stacia Raley and Cara Daugherty posted the only additional multi-hit games for the Skyhawks with Raley registering two singles in game two and Daugherty a single and a double in the early-afternoon matchup.

Game One – CSU Pueblo 3, Fort Lewis 0
The Skyhawks found themselves on the opposite side of the shutout this morning after only producing three total hits and leaving seven runners on the base paths throughout the contest.

CSU Pueblo was dominant behind Lucy Carney (1-2) who surrendered just three hits while walking five and hitting another en route to her first win and first complete-game outing of the season. On the opposite side of the rubber, Amiee Shanks (5-12) scattered six hits for a pair of earned and struck out one.

Caitlyn Cole, Madelyn Huerta, and Ashley Tosh supplied two hits each for all six of the ThunderWolves hits in the game and combined for three runs scored and a single run batted in. Taylor Brower, however, led the roster with two RBIs on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

Game Two – CSU Pueblo 4, Fort Lewis 2
CSU Pueblo once again scored early and often against the Skyhawks, putting up two runs in the bottom of the second inning on a solo homer from Darleen Falcon followed by a Fort Lewis error on a double steal that saw the runner out at second but allowed Taylor Brower to score. The Pack then followed up by adding an insurance run in both the third and fourth innings on a fielder's choice and another solo homer, this time from Emma Case.

Fort Lewis notched its only two runs of the afternoon thanks to a two-run shot off the bat of Tenorio that cleared the left field fence with two outs in the top of the third inning after Mykel Torres singled the at-bat prior.

In the circle, it was the lone arm of Marissa Robertson (4-8) who held down the Skyhawks in her seventh complete game of the season. The sophomore battled through 126 pitches and scattered eight hits, walked six, struck out one, and delivered two wild pitches for only two earned runs. Hailie Mann (3-13) went the distance for the 10th time this season and gave up seven hits, three earned runs, and one wild pitch while striking out four.
