COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After a program record performance on Saturday and a weekend of highlight reel plays, freshman Alyx Daugherty has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Daugherty is the third Fort Lewis College volleyball player to be named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week this season, following senior Ella Butler (Oct. 27) and sophomore Emery Pomroy (Sept. 15).

The freshman was as dynamic on defense as Whalen Gym has ever seen through matches against No. 11 MSU Denver and (RV) UCCS last week. She averaged 6.44 digs per set with 58 total digs in the two matches.

Saturday was when she truly shined, picking up a program record 40 digs in the five-set match against the Mountain Lions. Daughterty is one of just 10 players in NCAA DII to reach 40 digs in a match and is the lone freshman to do so this season.

In addition to her defensive prowess, she was errorless on serve receive in 52 chances, giving her a .976 receiving percentage in 340 chances this season. Daugherty ranks second in the conference in digs per set (4.86) and leads the league in digs per set in conference-only matches (5.42).
