DURANGO, Colo. – The Lone Star State awaits the No. 9 nationally ranked Skyhawks men's soccer team this week as Fort Lewis (1-0-0) travels to Austin on Thursday night for a match against St. Edward's University (1-0-1) at 6 pm before heading next door to San Antonio to meet No. 17 St. Mary's (1-0-1) at 3 pm for the first top 25 matchup of the season.

Match Won
Fort Lewis kicked off the 2025 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Lubbock Christian (1-1-0) last Thursday night. The Skyhawks allowed an early penalty goal to the Chaparrals, but completely flipped the script in the second half, holding LCU to zero shots while ultimately firing off 19 shots to the Chaparrals' four for the match. Alessio Andreottola made a quick impact in his first appearance, scoring his first goal on an arcing left-footed touch from the corner of the penalty area. Lorenz Guintini sealed the match in the 89th minute, splitting three defenders, including the goalkeeper, to place the game-winning header in the back of the net.

Down in Austin, however, the Hilltoppers hold a 2-1-1 edge, having won the last match 1-0 back on Sept. 6, 2015. The last time the two squads met was on Sept. 13, 2019, at Mountain Lion Field in Colorado Springs, Colo., where Fort Lewis walked away with a 3-2 victory thanks to a goal in the 87th minute.

The two teams have met in San Antonio just once, back on Sept. 11, 2016, when FLC scored three unanswered goals in the second half to leave with a 4-2 victory. Last season, the Skyhawks topped the Rattlers thanks to an 80th-minute goal from Gabriel Legendre.

Rumbling Rattlers
St. Mary's is off to a strong start this season after heading up to Colorado last week and forcing a 0-0 draw with No. 3-ranked CSU Pueblo (1-0-1) before taking down previously No. 17-ranked UCCS (1-1-0), 1-0 in Colorado Springs. The pair of results has earned the Rattlers a No. 17 national ranking in yesterday's edition of the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. Opponents have out-shot SMU 19-to-18, taken 11 corner kicks to the Rattlers' nine, and committed 24 fouls to St. Mary's 16. Both SMU and its opponents have fired seven shots on goal. St. Mary's Luke Mulkey and Johnny Thurbin were tabbed the Lone Star Conference's Defensive and Goalkeeper of the Week.
