Otters upend Skyhawks in Concordia Kickoff Classic finale

Fort Lewis caps trip to California with 1-4 start

IRVINE, Calif. – An explosive California State University Monterey Bay (4-1) offense caught fire quickly Sunday morning at the OC Great Park, as the Otters downed the Fort Lewis Skyhawks softball team (1-4) by a final score of 10-1 in five innings to close out the 2026 Concordia Kickoff Classic.
 
Fort Lewis scraped together three hits in 19 total at-bats, with Alex Tenorio, Makenna Milliman, and Izzy Cueva each recording a single. Milliman would score the Skyhawks' only run in the top of the second inning, first reaching on an error by the Otters third baseman, and later coming around to score on Mykel Torres run-batted-in (RBI) groundout to third.
 
Cal State Monterey Bay came up empty in the first and fourth frames, but erupted for five runs in the bottom of the second and third innings. In the bottom half of the second, the Otters first scored on an infield single, a walk in the following at-bat supplied another run, and Nani Arreola then cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to right-center field. In the third, it was a triple that pushed across the first two runs of the frame before an infield single and a pair of wild pitches brought in the final three runs.   
 
Chloe Padilla (0-2) was dealt the loss, going 2.0 innings with four earned runs on eight hits and four walks against a pair of strikeouts. Addison Gavigan (0-1) came in for 0.2 innings of relief, quickly being chased out with one hit, two earned runs, two walks, and three wild pitches. Hailie Mann (1-0) closed out the contest, tossing the final 1.1 innings with two walks on her final line.
 
Mikaya Griego (1-1) cruised to her first win of the year for CSU Monterey Bay, giving up just three hits and one walk against three strikeouts and one wild pitch in 61 total pitches.  
 
Notes
-Fort Lewis caps the 2026 Concordia Kickoff Classic with a 1-4 record, and a top 25 win over No. 14 nationally ranked California State San Marcos (3-1).
-Cal State Monterey Bay wins the first-ever matchup between the two teams.
-Izzy Cueva led all Skyhawks through the weekend, going 5-for-12 at the plate with one double, one run scored, and two RBIs.
-Makenna Milliman went 4-for-12 with two runs scored, one double, and two RBIs, and Alex Tenorio added another 4-for-17 weekend with one double and one run scored.
-Hailie Mann (1-0) led the Fort Lewis pitching staff, compiling 12.1 innings of work with nine hits, two earned runs, four walks, and seven strikeouts en route to an early 1.14 earned run average.
-Through five games, the Skyhawks are batting a .198 average with a .222 slugging percentage. On the flip side, FLC carries a 4.97 ERA as a staff with a .964 fielding percentage behind them.
 
Up Next
Fort Lewis is heading for Edmond, Okla., next Friday through Sunday, Feb. 6-8, for the University of Central Oklahoma-Oklahoma Christian University Classic. The Skyhawks will take on both the No. 11 Broncos (0-0) and No. 25 Eagles (4-0), respectively, as well as the likes of Oklahoma Baptist University (4-0), Cameron University (1-1), and Eastern New Mexico University (2-0).
