ThunderWolves claim series with sweep of Skyhawks

Timmons, Hoobler combine for lone run of the day

PUEBLO, Colo. – Unable to muster up the same offensive success as yesterday, the Fort Lewis softball team was felled 6-0 in game one and 4-1 in game two by Colorado State University Pueblo on Sunday afternoon, resulting in a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series sweep for the ThunderWolves.

Fort Lewis produced just six hits across the second day of action, compared to its 11 hits and three extra-base hits to open the series. Meanwhile, CSU Pueblo increased its total hits from 14 on Saturday to 18 on Sunday, resulting in an extra pair of runs for the ThunderWolves. The Skyhawks' defense stayed true, committing no errors across a four-game span for the first time since 2022.

Game One – CSU Pueblo 6, Fort Lewis 0
McKenna James (9-7) was simply dominant from start to finish for the ThunderWolves, tossing her ninth complete game of the season on just 86 pitches. James was two hits shy of perfection, surrendering just a pair of singles to Fort Lewis' veteran shortstop Alex Tenorio, alongside one strikeout while forcing 10 flyouts and eight groundouts.

The ThunderWolves offense was consistent throughout the game, and James was at the forefront, first recording an RBI single in the bottom of the first to put herself ahead in the circle, and later belting a solo home run to right-center in the home-half of the third. The Pack would score one run in the fourth on another homer, and three more in the fifth on a two-RBI triple, and another pair of RBI singles.

Addison Gavigan (0-5) made the start, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and three walks against one strikeout in her 4.1 innings of work. Chloe Padilla (1-11) came in on relief, finishing the game with two hits, one run, and a walk.

Game Two – CSU Pueblo 4, Fort Lewis 1
The ThunderWolves cruised on its offensive success behind a quality win in the circle from Kayli Cooper (3-1). Tossing just her third complete game of the season, Cooper matched James with just 86 pitches, holding the Skyhawks to one earned run on just four hits while leading all pitchers on the day with five strikeouts.

CSU Pueblo jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the home half of the first inning, scoring on a sacrifice bunt from James. The lead ballooned up to 4-0 in the bottom of the second on a pair of RBI singles and an RBI triple rifled off the bat of Gissel Morales-Cermeno. Fort Lewis pushed across its lone run of the afternoon in the top of the sixth inning, using an RBI single from McKenna Timmons to score Trista Hoobler, who opened the frame with a lead-off double.

Padilla built off her relief appearance in game one with the start in game two, going the distance for the 10th time this season with four earned runs on seven hits, three walks, and a hit-by-pitch on her ledger against a pair of strikeouts.
