Barney Hinkle scored 1,522 points during his four-year basketball career from 1977 to 1981 to become Fort Lewis College's all-time men's basketball scoring leader at the time of his induction.
He also held the school record for most career free throws (320), and currently ranks second in most points scored (1,522) and most field goals made (601).
A four-year letter winner, Mr. Hinkle earned All-NAIA District VII honors and honorable mention All-RMAC accolades as a senior. He was named Fort Lewis College's Most Valuable Player as a junior.
In the summer of 1981, Mr. Hinkle traveled to Australia as part of an NAIA All-Star basketball contingent.
He returned to Fort Lewis College as an assistant coach for Bob Hofman for one season, and also served as junior varsity coach at Durango High School for one year.
He received his bachelor's degree in business administration for Fort Lewis College in 1982, and later earned a master's degree in sport management from the University of Massachusetts in 1985.
Mr. Hinkle has gone on to a highly successful career in sports marketing. From 1985 to 1987, he was a corporate marketing representative for the Professional Golfers Association Tour. Among the PGA Tour programs under his direct supervision were the Merrill Lynch Shoot-Out series, the MasterCard "Master the Possibilities" program, and the MCI Long Distance Drive competition.
He began work for Anheuser-Busch, Inc., in St. Louis, Mo., in 1988 as a sports marketing coordinator responsible for the company's involvement in the sport of golf. He was responsible for coordinating programs relating to Anheuser-Busch's sponsorship of the National Football League, National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball.
His efforts for Anheuser-Busch have included working with Olympic marketing, plus golf, football, baseball, basketball and media merchandising. He was promoted to senior manager of sports marketing, and added the marketing of all "lifestyle" sports, including surfing, volleyball, jet skiing, snow skiing, mountain biking and extreme sports to his list of responsibilities.
