Hall of Fame
A four-year letter winner on the Raider men's basketball team from 1986-90, Darrin Worthington was a member of the school's first two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference basketball teams. As a true freshman, he came off the bench to average 6.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in 1986-87 when the Raiders went 20-6 overall and 12-2 in the RMAC under head coach Bob Hofman. Two years later, Worthington average 11.7 ppg and 4.6 rpg as the Raiders cruised to a 19-11 record and a 10-2 RMAC slate under head coach Jim Cross.
A three-year starting guard, Worthington epitomized a hard-working player on the hardwood and in the classroom. He is the only student-athlete in school history to receive the RMAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award three times, which he did from 1988-90. Worthington was also a three-time member of the Academic All-RMAC squad. By earning NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete accolades in 1989, Worthington became the first Academic All-American in Fort Lewis College men's basketball history.
On the court, he was chosen as a first team All-NAIA District VII and second team All-RMAC performer as a senior in 1990. He quietly finished his career ranked among the Top 20 in nearly every statistical category in school history, and remains among school leaders in scoring (seventh, 1,342 points), field goals (seventh, 493), free throws (ninth, 259), steals (105), three-pointers (19th, 93) and rebounding (19th, 450) through the completion of the 2010-11 season.
Worthington graduated from Fort Lewis College in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
He and his wife, former FLC women's basketball player Denise (Zacher) Worthington, live in Omaha, Neb.
