The 1999 men’s soccer team, coached by Jeremy Gunn, finished second in the NCAA Division II playoffs, losing to Southern Connecticut State 2-1 in double overtime on Dec. 5, 1999.

Along the way, the team won the RMAC title and posted an overall record of 18-3-3. Nineteen of the 21 players who saw action during the season went on to graduate from Fort Lewis College with bachelor’s degrees.

Remarkably, all 21 players who saw action during the season were American-born, 14 of whom graduated from Colorado high schools.

At the time, the national runner-up marked the highest any Fort Lewis team in any sport had finished in a NCAA championship competition. In the years since, men’s soccer has won two national titles (2005, 2009) and finished second another time (2006).

Three members of the ’99 team have already been inducted into the FLC Athletic Hall of Fame as individuals: Luc Cisna (in 2005), Brad Greenwood (2006) and Calum Robertson (2005). Several other team members will become eligible as individuals in the next few years.

Members of the 1999 men's soccer team include: head coach Jeremy Gunn; assistant coach Chris Sletten; players Steve Berglund, Anthony Bonanno, Jason Campbell, Dio Cifuni, Luc Cisna, Phil DeBoalt, Brent Diaz, Andy Finley, Benj Fredrick, Brian Fredrick, Brad Greenwood, Chris Greer, Matt Hyde, Liam Kaltenback, Brandon Kaplan, Truman Lockhart, Calum Robertson, Curt Slaughter, Matt Vannice, Josh Veryser and Alex Zametkin; and redshirt players Daniel Berghoff, Devin Price, Jonathan Ruehlen, Shane Thoreson, Elias Ulvi, Patrick Whalen and Devin Zimmerman.
