Overturf was a three-year letter winner in wrestling from 1987-90. He earned All-America honors at the NAIA National Championships as a senior by placing third at 134 lbs. Overturf also received the Gorrarian Award for recording the most pins in the least amount of time at nationals. He was three-time qualifier for nationals during his career, and won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship at 134 lbs. in 1988. Overturf also placed second in the conference at 126 lbs. in 1989 and at 134 lbs. in 1990. His career record at Fort Lewis College was 66-42. Overturf owned a labor servicing company in San Leandro, Calif.
