Ken Guzik is perhaps one of the finest linemen in school history. A four-year "iron man" who started on offense, defense and special teams, he earned all-conference honors in the Empire Conference in 1962 - - the last season of junior college football at Fort Lewis College. Although he would earn no more all-league honors (the RMAC didn't name all-conference teams until 1970), he became the most decorated lineman of his era of Fort Lewis College football.

Mr. Guzik received College's Outstanding Offensive Lineman award in 1962 and the school's Outstanding Lineman awards in 1964 and 1965. In addition to being an offensive and defensive lineman, he was also Fort Lewis College's place-kicker all four years, finishing second on the team in scoring in 1964.

Upon graduating from Fort Lewis College with a bachelor's degree in social studies and a minor in physical education, Mr. Guzik began a long career in secondary education and coaching. During this time, he earned a master's degree in physical education from Northern Arizona University in 1973.

After teaching and coaching stints in Shiprock, N.M., and Miami, Ariz., Mr. Guzik moved to Safford, Ariz. Mr. Guzik was the head football coach at Safford, guiding the Bulldogs to a 74-32 record, 11 straight playoff appearances, and two state semifinals.

In addition to coaching football, he coached track, basketball and baseball, and was chairman of Safford's social studies department. He was active in his community as an Elks member and one of the founders of the Bulldog Booster
Club.
