Thurman Babb

Thurman E. Babb earned all-conference honors for the Fort Lewis A&M Aggies football team as a halfback in 1959. He earned three varsity letters-two in football and one in baseball-at the junior college between 1958 and 1960, and was named the football team's Player of the Week on one occasion.

Mr. Babb also lettered in football at Eastern New Mexico University in 1960 and 1961. He was twice voted Player of the Week for the Greyhounds during his career.

After graduating from Eastern New Mexico in 1962, Mr. Babb was employed by the New Mexico State Police as a patrolman, stationed in Albuquerque, N.M.

In 1965, Mr. Babb began a 10-year career as a special agent with the U.S. Secret Service. His duties included the protection of U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, and their families. He also was assigned to protect numerous foreign heads-of-state, including King Hussain of Jordan, Kind Juan Carlos of Spain, Prime Minister Indira Ghandi of India, Prime Minister Golda Meir of Israel, and King Haile Selassie of Ethiopia.

He returned to Fort Lewis to receive his bachelor's degree in psychology in 2003.
