In 1979, longtime coach and administrator Ned Wallace became the first inductee into the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame. Wallace coached the Aggies in basketball from 1950-59 and in football in 1955 and 1956.

His 1953-54 Aggies won the Empire Conference title and earned a trip to the NJCAA National Championships, becoming the first basketball team in school history to advance to a national post-season tournament. That team was inducted into the FLC Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.

His administrative duties at the college included stints as director of student activities, director of student affairs, dean of students and dean of administration. He retired from the college in 1980, exactly 30 years to the day after he was first hired as physical education teacher and coach.

Wallace died on Dec. 20, 2005. He was 82.
