Hall of Fame
Melinda Balm-Carter, who played basketball for the Raiders from 1987-89, led the Fort Lewis College women to a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship as a senior.
She was named the NAIA District VII Player of the Year and earned NAIA All-American honorable mention during the 1987-88 season, was a two-time All-RMAC and All-NAIA District VII selection, and earned RMAC Player of the Week honors once during her career.
Balm-Carter owned four school records, including most blocked shots in a career (144), in a season (77) and in a single game (7), and best single-season free throw shooting (.825). At the time of her induction, she ranked 12th in school history in scoring (694 points) and 10th in rebounding (418) despite playing just two years at Fort Lewis College.
Prior to arriving at Fort Lewis College, she earned one letter in basketball at DePaul in 1983-84 prior to red shirting at Colorado in 1984-85.
Balm-Carter graduated from Fort Lewis College in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in humanities with a concentration in history.
She coached basketball after leaving Fort Lewis College, working with a ninth grade all-star team in Thornton in 1990 and as an assistant coach at Horizon High School in 1990-91. Horizon advanced to the state championship game that season.
Balm-Carter worked as a humane educator for the Denver Dumb Friends League Animal Shelter.
