Bill Cooke was a player, assistant coach and head coach for the Fort Lewis College Raiders football team in the 1970s and ‘80s. He served as head coach from 1984-87, posting a 20-16-1 record and leading FLC to its first and only Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference football title in 1984.
Cooke was a defensive standout for the Raiders in the early 1970s and was chosen as Most Valuable Player on the 1972 squad. He served as an assistant coach at FLC from 1976-77 under Jay McNitt and as defensive coordinator from 1982-83 under Gary Barnett before becoming head coach. Cooke’s coaching career including a long stint at Missouri Southern State University as an assistant and head coach. He coached future NFL receivers Rod Smith (Denver Broncos) and James Thrash (Washington Redskins) at Missouri Southern.
