Raymond G. "Jerry" Murphy lettered in football and basketball at Fort Lewis A&M before finishing his career by lettering in football at Adams State College.
An outstanding end on the 1948 Aggie football squad, Mr. Murphy caught 15 passes for 127 yards in helping the Aggies to a 5-3 record.

After completing his education, Mr. Murphy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He won a Congressional Medal of Honor during his tour of duty in Korea, and was awarded that medal at the White House by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Mr. Murphy received a master's degree from Springfield College. His professional career took him from recreation director near Boston, Mass., to private business in Santa Fe, N.M., to a high-ranking post with the Veteran's Administration.
