Anthony "Tony" Witkowski made a big impact in his one year at Fort Lewis A&M Junior College. After playing one year of freshman football at New Mexico, Witkowski played on the offensive and defensive lines and kicked extra points for the Aggies in 1950, leading the team to the Empire Conference championship and a berth in the Desert Bowl in Blythe, Calif. He earned all-conference and honorable mention All-America honors that season.

Witkowski returned to New Mexico for two more seasons and was part of the 1952 Lobo team, which led the nation in defense, allowing just 46 points that season. He was inducted into UNM's Hall of Fame along with his '52 Lobo teammates.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Witkowski retired in 1991 with 38 years of service to the Department of Defense. Many of those years were spent teaching and coaching at military bases around the globe.

Witkowski and his wife, Gail, reside in Sedgwick, Kans.
