Alan Dee Tennison accomplished some remarkable feats as a punter and wide receiver for Fort Lewis College from 1971 through 1974, but none more remarkable than becoming the first student-athlete in school history to win both All-America and academic All-America awards.
He burst onto the Raider football scene as a freshman by leading the RMAC in punting and earning first team all-conference, first team All-NAIA District VII and honorable mention All-American accolades.
As a sophomore, Mr. Tennison was a first team CoSIDA Academic All-American. He also made encore appearances on the RMAC and NAIA District VII teams that season.
Mr. Tennison added a fourth All-NAIA District VII selection as a senior in 1974.
A four-year starting punter, Mr. Tennison was also a starting receiver for two full seasons and parts of two others while at Fort Lewis College.
He graduated from Fort Lewis College in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in biology.
Mr. Tennison's professional career includes 15 years of teaching in Albuquerque, N.M., at Albuquerque, Highland, Sandia, and Valley high schools. He was head tennis and assistant football coach at Sandia for one year, and also served another seven years as tennis coach at Albuquerque.
Midway through his professional career, Mr. Tennison took a hiatus from teaching and became an engineer. He has since returned to teaching, and has shifted his focus from biology to mathematics.
