Donald Kahl earned four letters in basketball during Fort Lewis College's junior college and four-year college eras. He helped the 1960-61 and 1961-62 teams to a two-year record of 35-15 with his on-court leadership.

Mr. Kahl became a teacher and coach after graduating from Fort Lewis College. In 1966, he taught and coached basketball and track at Austin Junior High School in Austin, Ind. He became a history, economics and psychology teacher at Austin High School in 1969. In 1970, Mr. Kahl took a coaching and teaching position at Charlestown High School in Charlestown, Ind.

Between 1973 and 1980, Mr. Kahl left teaching and coaching to sell real estate.
Starting in 1980, Mr. Kahl began working in behavior modification-particularly weight loss, quitting smoking and stress management. By 1989, Donald A. Kahl and Associates was the largest weight loss and quitting smoking seminar in the country to use hypnotherapy.

Mr. Kahl returned to coaching as he helped two of the top professional racquetball players in the world.
