Lou Cullen, the original four-year head football coach at Fort Lewis College, was inducted into the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1981. Cullen led the Raiders to a 20-49 record in eight seasons between 1963 and 1970, including a 13-7 upset of Northern Colorado in the school's first four-year college game.

After handing over the head coaching reigns to Jay McNitt in 1971, "Coach Lou" remained as a Raider football assistant through 1983.

Prior to arriving at Fort Lewis, Cullen coached track and football at Farmington High School, where his undefeated Scorpion gridders were state champions in 1952. He was inducted into the Farmington High School Athletics and Activities Hall of Fame.

Cullen died on Feb. 1, 2000. An endowment established in his name will benefit a Fort Lewis College football player annually once it reaches its $25,000 endowment level.
