When freshman tight end Bob Porter caught a touchdown pass in a 19-7 victory over Otero County in 1962, it was monumental. Not only did it help the Aggies win, but it was the last touchdown of the Fort Lewis A&M Junior College era.

Mr. Porter's one year of junior college football produced an All-Empire Conference honor and Fort Lewis College's Defensive Player of the Year award.

Although he sat out the 1963 and 1965 seasons, Mr. Porter earned letters in 1964, 1966, and 1967. In 1967, when he caught 27 passes for 567 yards and seven touchdowns, he was named the team's Most Valuable Player.

After leaving Fort Lewis College, Mr. Porter became a teacher and head football coach at Zuni (N.M.) High School for two seasons. He returned to his hometown of Carlsbad, N.M., in 1971, and remained at Carlsbad High School as a history and physical education teacher, dean, and coach until his retirement in 1993.

He was an assistant football coach at Carlsbad from 1971 until 1980 and again from 1986 through1992. He served as head track coach from 1974 to 1980, guiding his teams to 4A state championships in 1978 and 1980.

A member of Carlsbad's 1962 4A state championship football team, Mr. Porter was inducted into his high school hall of fame in 1972.
