If Charles McLain is the father of Fort Lewis College athletics, then Margaret Good is truly the mother of Fort Lewis College women's athletics.

Good taught girls gym classes from the mid 1930s through the mid 1940s. Since there were no women's intercollegiate athletic leagues at the time, she organized a program where women could earn athletic letters by accumulating a certain number of points. Activities like basketball, volleyball, softball, tennis and hiking were all part of this program, and women who were on first or second teams would earn more points toward their letters than those who simply practiced or played on third teams.

"Ma" Good did much more for the college than just organize women's athletics. She taught a variety of subjects, including math, psychology and education during her 15-year teaching career. She was also the hostess at Snyder Hall and advised hundreds of freshman students.

Good ended her teaching career at the college in 1950, but her influence on women's athletics at Fort Lewis College can still be seen today.
